Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!

Here is a list of some of our generous donors and supporters. We could not do this without you!

Thank you to the wonderful volunteers from LDS Church that helped the shelter doing yard work and other projects around our grounds.

Thank you to Dr. Bonnie Kelm, for making a donation to The Humane Society of Ventura County in her son’s name. (See story and photo below.)

The Michael Darren Kelm Memorial Foundation is named to honor the memory of a young man with a compassionate heart who died at 28 in an automobile accident. Michael was a graduate of Miami University and was working on an MBA at Capital University. Although he was an analytical person, he had the soul of an artist. He wrote beautiful poetry, was an art collector and a lover of animals. Michael’s mother Dr.Bonnie Kelm created this foundation to be able to donate to Michael’s favorite causes.

Dr. Kelm worked with Compassionate Friends, a support network for parents who are grieving for children they have lost. A Meditation Site at Waller Park close to William & Mary College where Dr. Kelm taught at the time has a special bench now where these words of comfort are inscribed:

In the rising of the sun, and in its going down, we remember them.

In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them.

In the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring, we remember them.

In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer, we remember them.

In the rustling of leaves and in the beauty of autumn, we remember them.

In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember them.

When we are weary and in need of strength, we remember them.

When we are lost and sick at heart, we remember them.

When we have joys we yearn to share, we remember them.

So long as we live, they too shall live, for they are now part of us, as we remember them.

Thank you to everyone that generously donated towards the veterinary care and treatment of the abused Boxer puppy, Gretchen, that our Humane officers rescued in December 2009.

Thank you to Shaver Subaru of Thousand Oaks and Barber Subaru of Ventura for donating a couple of beautiful new canopies and table covers to be used at events throughout the county.

As a Christmas gift to The Humane Society, Aqua~Flo Supply donated a Synthetic Sod Installation in one of our doggie play yards at the shelter. All materials were donated by Aqua~Flo Supply. The grading and base work was done by Larry Thompson. The sod installation was done by Haney Landscaping Inc. assisted by Aqua~Flo Supply. Special thanks to Brian Scollick and Eileen Laber of Aqua~Flo Supply.

Thank you to the staff and students of Hillside Middle School for collecting and donating a huge amount of pet food and supplies to the animals at the shelter.

Thank you to Richard & Ellen Gilleland of Black Mountain Ranch in upper Ojai for donating almost 8,ooo pounds of walnuts for our annual holiday fundraiser. (Stop by the shelter to purchase some of these delicious, organic walnuts!)

Thank you to Cadette Girl Scout Troop 567 (Volunteers Brittany, Halley, Jaclyn, Lissa, Michelle & Tanya) for collecting various items for the shelter animals and for making dog & cat adoption gift bags.

Thank you to Volunteer Norby Beilschmidt, our “Mr. Fix-It” handyman, for fixing everything that ever needs to be fixed at the shelter.

Thank you to Karl Hillway, a soldier in Iraq, for donating pet beds, brushes and a Petco gift card to the shelter animals for the holidays.

Thank you to Old Creek Ranch Winery for donating 50% of the proceeds from the sales of their calendars to The Humane Society of Ventura County. The calendars are available at the winery and at the shelter. (4 dogs from the shelter were adopted by the winery’s owners and are featured in the calendar – so adorable!)
