Microchips Are a Pet’s Ticket Home

Day in and day out we see lost animals coming through our doors. We so badly want to get them back to their owners, but sometimes we just have to wait for the owners to come to us. If  all of the animals that came through our doors had microchips, we could have them back home that very day.

Below is a story out of San Diego’s CBS 8 on a cat that made it home after 7 years all thanks to a microchip.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – Talk about an unforgettable holiday reunion.

A cat that went missing from her home in Phoenix seven years ago and ended up here in San Diego has now been reunited with her original owner in Arizona.

Tricia Osterman couldn’t contain her emotions as she was reunited with her cat Sophia. The feline was turned over to the San Diego Humane Society by a family that could no longer take care of her.

Sophia was microchipped, which led the Humane Society to her original owner.

“I was in disbelief. How does that happen? How does a cat come up seven years later from Phoenix to San Diego?” Osterman said. “It’s a Christmas miracle right now.”

There was no word on how Sophia ended up in San Diego in the first place. All that matters to Tricia is that she has her beloved cat back home.

This pretty girl is KC. (Maybe it stands for “Kinda Cute”). KCutie has been at the Humane Society since January 06, 2014. When it is time to relax, KC is the perfect lap-warmer! (As long as she gets a scratch behind her ears of course!)

KC is a spayed orange Pomeranian. The shelter staff think she is about 7 years old.

Her adoption fee of $75 includes spay, vaccinations, free veterinarian visit, and microchip implantation. For more information on KC,  or other adoptable animals, please call 805 646-6505. You can meet her Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 5:30pm.
