Justice served for “Buddy” the Basset Hound
Andrew Delgado has been sentenced to 16 months in state prison and 3 years of parole after being released from state prison. He will also be required to register as an arson offender and was imposed sentencing enhancements in the event he re-offends at a later date that would provide for an extra 5 years added to any sentence he may receive in the future.
All of this comes after Delgado plead no contest to charges associated with setting “Buddy” the Basset Hound on fire in October of 2012. Delgado drenched Buddy in lighter fluid and then set him on fire in a ravine near his home on Mesa Drive in the Camarillo Heights area. Buddy was initially found alive by responders but died shortly thereafter.
Here at the Humane Society of Ventura County we would like to thank Deputy District Attorney Simmons for seeking the maximum sentence and Judge Bruce Young for sentencing Delgado to time in state prison.
We would further like to thank all who have donated to the Humane Society of Ventura County in memory of Buddy. Those funds will be used to fund the care of animals at our shelter as well as many of our valuable programs including our Investigations Department.
