Join Aimee French on Saturday, May 15th from 11:00 to 12:00 at the Humane Society of Ventura County and Saturday, May 22nd from 12:00-2:00 at Petco in Ventura for a free workshop for new adopters.
So many topics come up when we bring home a new dog: housetraining, jumping, door-dashing, leash walking, safety, sleeping arrangements, training, appropriate play, food ant treats and barking.
Questions regarding these issues and many more will be addressed at these workshops.
This is for PEOPLE ONLY! Please do not bring your dog.

So often we forget to take a moment to recognize the many unsung heroes that are so deeply involved in making our shelter what it is today. One such hero is Annie Dransfeldt.
This longtime animal lover knows very well the pains of loosing a beloved pet. She uses her experience and compassion to comfort those who have to bring their animals to us when its time to say a loving goodbye. It is an extraordinarily difficult time for owners as they grapple with not only the difficult decision but also the devastating loss. While no one is able to alleviate all of the pain, Annie is there to provide much needed support and comfort.
Annie receives a description of the beloved pet/friend from our office staff. She then carefully searches through her library and the internet for images of animals that match the looks of the pet. She then designs beautiful custom cards and writes a further personalized note to the owners.
Annie pays for all of the supplies and postage and refuses to accept money from our shelter to cover her costs and priceless service.
Not only has Annie been one of our heroes here at the shelter but she has also been an active animal advocate serving as the driving force for the dog park in Ventura, which is in fact named the “Annie Dransfeldt Dog Park” off Dean Drive in Camino Real Park.
We here at the Humane Society of Ventura County tip our hats to Annie Dransfeldt and send from the bottom of our hearts our sincerest of thanks. She brings a ray of sunshine to people on the darkest of days.
